Engineering
Structural engineers design economical structures
that satisfy requirements of safety, utility, and
durability. They oversee the building of
constructed facilities and investigate the
performance of structures that fail to perform as
expected. They design structures that resist
forces: a building must withstand the forces
induced by wind, earthquake, or blast: a bridge,
the forces induced by high winds and heavy
traffic; a dam, the flow of a river; and a
submarine, the pressures of deep water.
Construction Management
Construction engineers manage and direct
construction operations. Labor, materials, and
equipment are analysed for each job to determine
the proper quantity of each, ensuring
availability at the appropriate time and place.
Construction engineers are experts in many areas
because they deal with the different aspects of
civil engineering. They know the capabilities of
people, materials, and specifications into an
operation such as drilling deep into the ground
for a foundation or placing the cable over the
saddle at the top of a suspension bridge tower.
Of particular value to the construction engineer
in the decision-making process is the use of the
digital computer as a tool in planning,
scheduling, fiscal control, inventory,
estimating, and production rate forecasting.
Environmental Engineering
Environmental engineers have played an
increasingly important role in solving the
problems of air, land, and water contamination.
They develop technologies to reduce and eliminate
waters from manufacturing operations, and for
waste treatment and pollution prevention. They
design, construct, and operate systems that
purify water for drinking, industrial use, and
recreation. They also develop and implement
air-purification devices and models that describe
the transport and removal of contaminates in the
atmosphere. Protocols for solid and
hazardous-waste management are also developed and
implemented by environmental engineers. Many
environmental engineers develop plans and conduct
research to solve expanding human population.

Find Homes Built
by Contractors
Probably the first thing you should realize
about building is that construction costs are higher in
some areas than in others. The cost of
building a home must take into account
variables like labour, equipment,
materials, likely site conditions,
standards and contractors knowledge in
that area...
